First concert of new songs in Halifax
It was an absolute honour to be at the first show of The North tour. Being in the audience to hear those songs for the first time was magical and EVERY SONG WAS AMAZING.
I should preface this by saying I have never bought a Stars album or seen a Stars show. I was at the concert for Bahamas and Father John Misty. But damn, Stars grabbed me by the guts and I'm totally hooked.
In the middle of the show, I tweeted that Jay-Z would kill a remix of the song "A Song Is A Weapon". Torq sang it with such intensity (like a hip-hop Peter Gabriel) that I could envision a fierce rap laid over top).
The lyrics of this album show such deep thought on relatively untouched themes, like the unloved heart of a long-term relationship in "Walls". It hit on so many feelings that many of us haven't even uncovered, I think.
Beyond that, the orchestration was incredibly lush, but pop and instantly memorable. And the musical theatre quality of Amy and Torq singing back and forth to each other is so incredibly energized, you can't take your eyes off them.
I cannot say enough about this show. Thank you.
P.S. Amazing sparkly dress, Amy. You're a total babe. xo
